Re-Roofing
- No more than 2 layers of shingles or roofing material are allowed. If there are more existing layers, those layers will have to be removed before installing the new roofing material.

- A starter roll must be applied from the bottom of the roof edge to 2 feet past the interior wall line. This is to prevent damage from ice/water back-up.
- A roofing permit is good only for removing and applying roofing material. If roof boards or sheathing or other material is to be replaced, a regular building permit is required.
- Re-roofing permits may not be issued without the contractor’s license number. Property owners undertaking their own re-roofing projects are not required to provide a contractor’s license number.
- The inspection will be performed at the inspector’s discretion or at your request. The best time for an inspection is the half-way point of the project.
- Flashing must be installed over all exterior openings.
- Nails and fasteners must be spaced according to code for different siding types.
- All sharp or jagged edges must be left smooth to avoid injury.
- All backing material must be approved for such use.
- All siding material must be of weather resistant material and must be applied to insure a weather-tight surface.
- The inspection will be performed at the inspector’s discretion or at your request. The best time for an inspection is the half-way point of the project.
- This permit is valid for replacement of existing windows of the same size only. Any window installation which requires a change in framing members or which alters the structural integrity of the walls requires a regular building permit.
- All windows and door openings must have flashing installed over the exterior opening.
- If a bedroom window is to be replaced, it must be replaced with a window of at least the same size and openings that the code required when built. This requirement only applies to window replacement in existing single family dwellings.

The purpose of the Zoning Ordinance is to:
- Implement the Comprehensive Plan as adopted by the City Council.
- Protect the public health, safety, comfort, convenience and general welfare of the community.
- Promote orderly development of the residential, commercial, industrial, recreational and roadway area of the city.
- Divide the area within the city into zones and districts regulating the location, construction, reconstruction, alteration and use of structures and land as well as regulating the bulk of structures in relationship to surrounding properties.
- Protect and improve the quality of unique natural resources.
- Preserve and protect property values.
- Provide for the administration of the zoning ordinance and define the powers and duties of the administrative Officer as provided therein.
- Prescribe penalties for the violation of the provisions of the zoning ordinance or any amendment.
